SEEK ‘Setting’
In Creative Writing SEEK (extension (I’m not really that smart ;))) class, I - yes, just me; the rest of the class (Sammi and Drifty (seriously, that’s our whole class!)) was away - had to write a ’setting’ piece of writing. The aim was to mainly write about one moment in time, and to be very descriptive. The result is below. My teacher said it was really good (YAY!), but that it was cliched (:().
The boy and girl walk barefoot along the beach, watching their feet being covered in wet sand and water, specks of ocean life swirling between their toes. The clouds drift overhead, the sun’s rays peeking through. The beach reaches beyond view, seeming as if not to end.
Their hands clasped together, almost as one person, the couple are completely alone, the last two people on Earth. In school uniform; the boy’s tie tied loosely, the girl’s long hair swaying in the warm summer breeze.
In the shallows floats a plastic bag, a reminder of the pair’s past life. And, further out to sea, all manner of sea creatures, in every colour of the rainbow, reflecting the feelings swirling through both the boy and girl’s very souls.
The two lie down in the sand, close together, looking up at the sky. Birds fly in formation above them, a family, travelling together to a better place, somewhere they can be free from the drudgery and struggle of everyday life, just as the lone couple below them have done, at least for the time being.
They lie there for eternity, clouds replaced with stars, and stars with clouds, over and over. Their setting is timeless, as are the feelings they have for one another. Never wanting to return to their separate lives, but knowing they must eventually, the two embrace in perpetual togetherness.
